Hi! Welcome to my first tutorial. I was really happy with how this turned out. I think it will look just wonderful in my dorm room, with pillows that match the gray chevron. Feel free to use whatever fabric/print you like. Have fun!
Materials:
Bulletin Board/Cork Board
1 or 1.5 yards of cotton fabric, depending on the size of your bulletin board (mine was a duck cloth from Hobby Lobby- $8.99/yd)
1 yard of quilt batting (Walmart $3/yd)
fabric shears
measuring tape
staple gun
optional: ribbon or some type of trim (I got mine at JoAnn's a while back, not sure of the price)
optional: needle and matching thread
First, measure out your quilt batting so that it will fit the inside of your bulletin board. This will make sure that you will be able to put push pins into your board, once it is finished. Just remember that this part doesn't have to be perfect. It won't be seen when we are finished.
Staple the batting as close to the frame as possible, keeping it tight.
Cut your fabric to fit the bulletin board, with more than three inches around each side. Make sure to cut it straight or it could end up looking crooked when finished, especially with the chevron print that I used.
Pull the fabric as tight as possible and staple it in the middle, on the backside of the board, as close to the frame as possible.
I fixed the edges as if I was wrapping a present, like pictured above.
Then pull the excess fabric tight and staple the corner, as you did before. It should look like the picture above.
Once you've done all four sides, this is what it should look like! Simple enough right? You can be finished here, or you can move on to the next few optional steps.
Take your trim or ribbon (you could even use colored elastic!) Measure it across your board, leaving a little extra on both ends. I cut 3 identically sized pieces of this black sequined ruffle trim. This next part was really hard to take pictures of, but I did my best!
Stretch your trim as tight as you can make it and secure it by stapling it on the back on both, the top and the bottom.Cut off the excess. Do this process to all the pieces that you have chose to cut. I did 3 so that they would only take up half of the board.
Feel free to stop here, but if you have the same problem that I did, with pictures sliding out of the trim, you can follow this quick step.
I simply took a needle and thread and make a few stitches through the fabric of the board, as well as the trim. You can make the stitches wherever you would like. I did mine unevenly, so that I could fit pictures into some spots and other, bigger, things into the others.
And WALLA! You're finished! Now fill it with pictures and memories. This is great for a dorm room because it will help you remember all your memories from back home!
Very fun Jordyn!! Congrats on your first post!! :)
